Cheese and Sausage Bites

Serves 24 (2 slices per serving)

8 ounces lean ground beef
8 ounces fresh bratwurst sausage, casings removed
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1-teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon dries mustard
salt and pepper to taste
12 slices of any Mrs Baird's whole grain bread, lightly toasted
2 cups shredded Muenster cheese

In a large skillet, cook ground beef and bratwurst sausage for 8 to 10 minutes, or until no longer pink in the center, stirring to break up meat. Drain off excess drippings, and add onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper, and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes, or until vegetables are tender-crisp. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, oregano, dry mustard, and salt and pepper to taste, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until flavors have blended, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool at least 10 to 15 minutes. Cut the toasted bread slices diagonally into triangles. Preheat oven to 375° F. Stir cheese into meat mixture and spoon 2 tablespoons of the mixture on a bread triangle and place on a large nonstick baking sheet. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until cheese has melted.
